Hardware Ban in Rust — What It Is and How to Get Rid of It

Got a hardware ban in Rust and your new account keeps getting locked? We break down what an HWID ban is, why simply switching accounts won't help, and how to fix it without reinstalling Windows.

Which anti-cheat does DayZ use

DayZ is protected by BattlEye — an anti-cheat used in dozens of popular games: Escape from Tarkov, Arma 3, Squad, Rainbow Six Siege and others. BattlEye works at the kernel level, scans running processes and analyzes game memory in real time.

Unlike EAC, which often hands out HWID bans, BattlEye usually bans accounts. However, in case of system-level violations hardware bans are possible too — that's exactly why a spoofer is recommended for DayZ as well.

Types of cheats for DayZ

In 2026 there are several product categories available for DayZ:

ESP / Wallhack — the most popular type. Shows players, zombies, loot and vehicles through walls. Lets you see nicknames, distance, health, the weapon in hand. It's a visual advantage without aggressive functions — with careful play the ban risk is minimal.

Aimbot — automatic target locking. In DayZ, silent aimbot is especially valued — it doesn't move the camera in a visible way. Choosing the right bone and setting the distance matter a lot — an aggressive in-your-face aimbot quickly triggers reports.

Misc functions — extras like speedhack, infinite stamina, fast loot. These features are noticeable to other players and, with active use, raise the report risk.

How to pick a cheat for DayZ

What to look at when choosing:

  • Status — Undetected means the cheat isn't detected by BattlEye at the time of check. Look at how current the status is — it should be updated after every BattlEye patch

  • Built-in spoofer — some DayZ cheats come bundled with a spoofer. It's convenient but doesn't always mean better protection than a standalone solution

  • Update history — BattlEye updates regularly. A cheat that's supported and updated after patches is significantly more reliable than an abandoned product

  • Supported Windows versions — check compatibility with your OS version before buying

How to minimize the ban risk in DayZ

The technical side is only half the deal. In-game behavior matters just as much:

  • Don't shoot through walls at obviously long distances — that's the first sign of ESP for observers

  • Set the aimbot distance reasonably — sniper-grade accuracy at point blank from 500 meters raises suspicion

  • Don't use speedhack on populated servers

  • Take breaks — non-stop play with perfect stats draws attention

Use a spoofer as insurance. Even if you get banned — it'll only hit the spoofed identifiers, not your real hardware.

Server-side keypress checks

Many popular DayZ servers — especially big RP and survival ones — have plugins installed that track keyboard activity. The logic is simple: the system records which keys are pressed, how often, and in what combinations.

Particular attention is paid to so-called "cheater keys" — the ones cheat developers traditionally use as default hotkeys: Insert, Home, Delete, End, Page Up, Page Down, F1–F4. If the system spots frequent presses of these keys — especially combined with abnormal accuracy or behavior — it's a trigger for a manual check or an auto-ban.

What to do:

  • In your cheat settings, always rebind hotkeys from defaults to neutral ones — for example F9, F10, F11 or mouse side buttons

  • Never open the cheat menu in-game — only before joining a server or in a safe zone with no other players nearby

  • Don't keep the cheat menu open while playing — close it right after tweaking settings

  • Avoid rapid repeated presses of the same key — it looks like you're testing features
